Abaco is the northernmost "out Island" in the Bahamas and lies east of Grand Bahama on the Little Bahamas Bank. The island of Great Abaco, on which the house is located, is about 100 miles long. About 3-5 miles off its shores are a string of cays. The area between called the Sea of Abaco is consistently listed among the 10 best cruising areas in the world. On the ocean side of the cays are magnificent coral reefs. Beaches line both the ocean side and throughout the Sea of Abaco which is wonderful for exploring by small rental boats. You will also visit several island communities founded in the 1700's by Loyalists who fled the U.S. after the Revolutionary War and tried to recreate their plantations on these islands.

Marsh Harbour is the principal settlement on the island but is quite small by U.S. standards. There are 2 super markets, drug store, hardware stores, and liquor stores. Also there are several marinas, hotels, gift shops, and a nice selection of restaurants. Rental cars, boats, motor scooters, and bicycles are available. There are doctors, dentists and a government clinic. The airport is 2 miles from town.

Windward House is 2 1/2 miles from town in the other direction from the airport. It is located on the private road servicing Eastern Shores, which is a narrow peninsula about 2 miles long and 1 house and road wide. It protected by Sugar Loaf Cay to the south east making a natural harbour where our dock is located. From the front of the house the view across the Sea of Abaco in the other direction is also wonderful. On this side you can swim in shallow water over pure white sand.

The house has a double living area on each side of the house with glass wall views over the water. The back side includes a large sunning deck and steps to the dock which has 6' of water at low tide. The living areas are divided by a fully equipped kitchen (brand new in 99) and breakfast bar. There are four bedrooms and three baths. The whole house is wonderfully furnished and decorated in island style. Linens and towels are furnished but beach towels are not, so bring your own. We have direct dial telephone service and a VHF radio which serves as a local telephone system which most everybody monitors. You should supply your own snorkle, diving, or fishing equipment although it may be rented in town. Taxi service is excellent.

Windward House offers the ultimate in fun in the sun or water and exploring nearby cays, settlements, beaches and reefs. The water is crystal clear and the visibility will amaze you. The people of Abaco are very friendly and you will feel welcome every where.

TRANSPORTATION AND CUSTOMS:

Continental (Gulfstream), Island Express, and Bahamas Air serve Marsh Harbour from West Palm Beach and some from Ft. Lauderdale as well. American Airlines and Continental (Gulfstream) serve Marsh Harbour from Miami. U.S. Air serves Marsh Harbour through Nassau on a code sharing arrangement with Bahamas Air. Vintage Props and Jets (1-800-852-0275) serves Marsh Harbour from Daytona Beach, Melbourne, and Orlando. They are very reliable and fly 9 passenger King Airs with 2 pilots. Schedules and airlines may change from time to time so it is good to check. Check with a travel agent about customs requirements. Passports are best but certified birth certificates with a photo ID are accepted.

Upon reserving, a deposit of $1000 is due. The final payment should be mailed so we will have it at least 5 weeks before your arrival date. Both checks should be made out to C.B. Rentals. A seperate $100 damage deposit check should be sent with the final payment. We will hold the check and upon your leaving the house in good condition we will return it to you ripped in half. At this time we also need to know your flight arrival time in Marsh Harbour.

In the event of a cancellation, your deposit less a $50 cancellation fee will be returned to you if 120 days notice prior to your arrival is given. If less than 120 days notice is given the refund will depend upon our ability to re-rent the house. If we do re-rent then you will receive a refund minus the $50 cancellation fee.
