Description: Thank you very much
for your interest in this lovely two bedroom cottage nestled in dense
plantings and palms right on the beach on Harbour Island. This gorgeous
beach is world famous for its pink sand. The cottage can be rented separately
from the main house or with it, but the foliage and over 30 palm trees
insures complete privacy between the two. The first floor of the cottage
has Mexican tile which extends out to include the covered outdoor terrace
which has ceiling fans and comfortable seating. Inside, the living room
has palladium windows and a cathedral ceiling. Adjacent to the living
room, is the kitchen and bath. The second story includes two twin bed
bedrooms (which can both be made into kings). One of these bedrooms has
a large vented skylight for additional light and star gazing. French doors
open to the upstairs terrace which has a spectacular view of the ocean.
An outside gas grill is provided. There is maid service six days a week
(never on Sundays or Holidays). The cottage has satellite TV and there
is a large air conditioner on the ground floor, as well as the upstairs.
There is one bathroom upstairs and one down. Harbour Island is located
just north of the large island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. On the island
is the village of Dunmore Town, which was founded by British settlers
in the 1700s. Most of the homes built during that time still remain and
several have become inns with small bars and restaurants that feature
patios and porches for outdoor eating and socializing. The island is often
described as the "Nantucket" of the Bahamas and the beach outside
our door as one of the ten best in the world. Winters are balmy with
an average high temperature in the 80s. Evenings are delightful and you
might want to bring a sweater. Summer days and nights are often cooled
by soft trade winds. During the day, the ocean provides a never ending
panorama of changing light and color. At night, looking for shooting stars
or stargazing can provide an evening of inexpensive pleasure. The stars
look close enough to touch. Since the island is
only 3 1/2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide your island transportation is
by walking, bikes, or by golf cart. For golf cart rentals call Ross Garage
(242-333-2122) which is about a 5 minute walk from the house. Also if
you would like groceries delivered for the day you arrive, call Piggly
Wiggly (242-333-2120). They are open on Sundays between 8:00AM - 10:00AM. Don't miss Arthur's
Bakery and his famous Bahamian Bread, sweet rolls and cinnamon buns. A
walk around the town exploring it's many shops, art galleries, boutiques,
and restaurants is always a delight. Anywhere you go on the island you
will be welcomed. The local pool hall and bar is called "Willies".
Frank, the owner, is a very good pool player and a super person to talk
to about island history. The decor is rustic with a huge tree growing
in the middle of the building. Scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing,
fishing, sailing, boating, and tennis are readily available. We have (and
you have) a membership at the Romora Bay Club which allows you to use
their swimming pool, tennis courts, kayaks, windsurfers, and floating
raft and gives you a 15% discount on food and drinks. It is five minutes
from the house and fun to go there to watch the sunset. Once a week there
is a "jump up" under the fig tree located in front of the Harbour
Lounge with a live band. There is also the Sea Grapes, a local night club,
where you will find both native islanders and visitors. The Coral Sands
usually has a live band on Fridays on their outside terrace. There is
a modern yacht club that provides slips for deep water yachts. Many of
these yachts fly European flags and their owner's and crew provide an
international flavor and vibrancy to the town. It has an open air bar,
restaurant and pool. Bikes are available
from a number of sources, but the closest to the house is Anthony's just
up the road. All fresh meat and poultry is imported and expensive; therefore
you may want to bring a cooler (no fruit and vegetables allowed - they
can be bought locally). Fresh fish and crawfish (lobster) can be bought
at the town dock or ordered ahead of time from the Fruit and Vegetable
Store across from the dock. Two very nice days can
be spent off island. Rent a car and explore all of Eleuthera which is
over 100 miles long and very interesting. Another day you can hire a small
boat and captain and have him take you on the intricate 12 mile trip to
the island of Spanish Wells. The island is very prosperous and interesting
and the ride inside the reef is exciting. At the "Devil's Backbone"
your boat is almost on the beach. Several days can also be spent in your
own small boat. There are a number of sources who rent these boats. AIRLINES:
Getting to Harbour Island
is easy through North Eleuthera Airport with air service several times
a day via West Palm, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. Some of the carriers are
U.S. Airways, BahamasAir, Gulfstream Airlines (Continental) and several
others. When you arrive at North Eleuthera Airport, get a land taxi for
a 3 minute ride to the dock and then a $4 dollar water taxi will bring
you to Harbour Island's government dock. It is during this 10 minute boat
ride that you first experience freedom from the real world. Rates:
Sorry, no pets allowed. 50% rental deposit to reserve, check payable to C.B. Rentals. There will be a rental agreement for the renter to sign as well as a $400 damage deposit which will be returned after the rental provided no damage was done other than normal wear and tear. Final payment due 45 days prior to arrival, check payable to C.B. Rentals. Cancellation policy: Your funds are refundable provided cottage can be re-rented in the event of your cancellation.
